Tehran will take appropriate measures in response to execution of a number of Iranian prisoners in Saudi Arabia for alleged involvement in drug trafficking, the rapporteur of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee has announced, Mehr reported.

"Saudi Arabia's action in the current situation illustrates that they had not adopted a legal approach to deal with the issue, and had been seeking to take a politically motivated action," MP Hossein Naqavi-Hosseini told the Persian service of IRNA on Saturday.

In addition, the lawmaker criticized relevant international organizations for remaining silent about the Arab kingdom's actions which are in violation of international norms.

Meanwhile, MP Avaz Heydarpour of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee has called on the government to expel the Saudi Arabian ambassador to Tehran and recall the Iranian ambassador from Riyadh.

MP Mansour Haqiqatpour has also criticized the Saudi Arabian government for denying the Iranian prisoners their rights to have consular contact, lawyer, and interpreter.

"The Saudi government does not adhere to any principles of human rights," he told Mehr on Saturday.

Saudi Arabia executed the Iranian nationals on the charge of drug smuggling to the kingdom in April this year. Earlier, Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi had contacted Saudi foreign minister to seek drop of the charges against Iranian nationals.

In the aftermath of four Iranians' execution on drug smuggling charges, Iran has cancelled a deputy foreign minister's trip to Saudi Arabia, Mehr News Agency reported.

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian was scheduled to meet with Saudi Foreign Minister Saud Al Faisal in Jeddah.
