Spokesman of Iranian Foreign Ministry Ramin Mehmanparast said that deploying missile defense elements on Syrian border will only aggravate the complex situation, IRIB News reported.

On Wednesday, Turkey formally requested NATO to deploy the missile defence elements on its border with Syria to boost its air defence systems.

"Such move will only make the matters worse, and it does not help to solve the crisis in Syria," Mehmanparast noted on Friday.

The spokesman added that it would be better for influential countries to look for political solutions of regional issues.

Mehmanparast said that Western states insist that the Syrian conflict would be solved with military option, and that is "the main reason for increasing tension and threats in the region".

The spokesman added that all countries that could help solve the Syrian crisis, should pursue political solution to the problem.

He also said that West's true intentions in the region is to provide security for Israel, and this fact should be treated with vigilance by other regional countries.

Syria's conflict erupted in March 2011 with an uprising against Assad's regime, inspired by other Arab Spring revolts, but quickly morphed into a civil war that has since killed more than 40,000 people, according to activists.
