The June 14 election was the safest election in the history of the Islamic republic of Iran, Police Chief Brigadier General Esmail Ahmadi-Moghaddam said on Wednesday.

The real winners of the election were the supreme leader and the Iranian nation, the Mehr News Angecy quoted Ahmadi-Moghaddam as saying.

He further praised the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting for its vast coverage of the election results, saying that no Iranian needed to check the foreign controlled websites or satellite networks for information,

Ahmadi-Moghaddam also said that the 73 per cent turnout in the election is a symbol of democracy in Iran.

Iran's eleventh presidential election was held on June 14. On Saturday, Reformist candidate Hassan Rohani was officially named as Iran's next president with 50.7 per cent of the votes.
