Iran, Thailand to boost bilateral economic ties

Iranian Minister of Industry, Mine, and Trade Mehdi Ghazanfari and Thailand Commerce Minister Boonsong Teriyapirom held talks on Wednesday, Mehr news agency reported.

During the meeting the two sides called for expansion of bilateral economic ties.

Mehdi Ghazanfari said that Iran plans to sign long-term agreements with Thailand and other countries to supply Tehran's needs.

"Thailand has suggested Iran to export technical and engineering services in regards to production of Halal food to Bangkok," he said.

"Iran's private sector can invest in Thailand's food industry which will benefit both countries," Ghazanfari added.

"Thailand also seeks to import chemical industrial, and minerals products such as steel products from Iran," he concluded.

Teriyapirom for his part said that his country is ready to export rice, sugar, and tires to Tehran.

According to Iran Customs Administration, the two countries trade volume stood at 324 million dollars in 2012. Iran's exports accounted for just 18 million dollars of the mentioned amount.
