Iranian president Hassan Rouhani has dismissed head of Iran's National Supreme Security Council Saeed Jalili from his post, Fars news agency reported.

Iranian president Hassan Rouhani has dismissed head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili from his post, Fars news agency reported.

Iran's former commander of the IRGC navy with the rank of rear admiral, Ali Shamhani has been appointed to this post.

Shamhani also held the post of the minister of defense from August 1997 until August 2005 in the government of former Iranian president Mohammad Khatami.

Currently, Shamhani is a military advisor to the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and director of Iranian Armed Forces' Center for Strategic Studies.
