Iran and Italy historically have good relations.
Ali Akbar Velayati, an advisor to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, said that Tehran is willing to expand bilateral ties with Rome, Iran's Fars News Agency reported on May 3.
Velayati made the remarks at meeting with Italian parliamentary delegation.
"Such visits can help the two governments to improve their relations," he said.
A delegation consisted of Italian MPs arrived in Tehran on May 2.
The Italian delegation is expected to hold talks with high-ranking Iranian officials to boost the two countries' bilateral, economic, political, and cultural ties.
A Member of Italy's parliament, Erasmo Palazzotto, said on May 2 that a powerful Iran can improve the region's economy as well as establish peace and stability there.
Palazzotto said a powerful Iran is an opportunity for everyone, Iran's IRNA News Agency reported on May 2.
"Iran is an economic axis for the region," he said, praising the country's rich history.
Iran imported $849 million worth of goods from Italy in the previous calendar year (which ended on March 20). Tehran also imported over $200 million worth of goods to Rome.
