Tehran, Iran, Sept. 1

By Milad Fashtami - Trend:
A huge fire broke out outside the site of South Pars gas field's phases 17 and 18.
According to Hassan Boubari, the project manager of the mentioned phases' development plan, the fire happened in one of the warehouses of the Oil Industries Engineering and Construction (OIEC) Company, three kilometers away from the actual site of the phases, Iran's SHANA News Agency reported on Sept. 1.

"The fire started on Friday night was put out after two hours," he explained. The incident had no causalities.

It was previously reported that huge financial losses were inflicted. But according to Boubari, only 20 containers of color were destroyed. The fire reportedly started due to an electrical malfunction.

South Pars is part of a wider gas field that is shared with Qatar. The larger field covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, 3,700 square kilometers of which are in Iran's territorial waters (South Pars) in the Persian Gulf. The remaining 6,000 square kilometers, referred to as the North Dome, are in Qatar's territorial waters.
