Cargo handling at Iranian ports climbs

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 12. A total of 446 million tons of cargo have been handled and unloaded in Iranian ports over the past 3 years, the statistics of Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization said, Trend reports.

Furthermore, 27 million tons of cargo have been transported through Iranian ports during the last three years.

Iranian ports have loaded and unloaded 7 million TEU containers in the past three years and imported 64 million tons of essential foodstuffs for the country's food security.

During the mentioned period, 510 trillion rials (about $1.34 billion) have been invested in 30 projects for the country's ports and shipping industry.

Moreover, the private sector has invested 120 trillion rials (about $316 million) over the past three years.

The loading and unloading capacity of the country's ports has been supplemented with 1.26 million tons of cargo.

To note, the current throughput capacity of Iranian ports is more than 285 million tons. Iran is taking steps to increase the capacity of ports by 500 million tons.
