(IRNA) - Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular and Parliamentary Affairs Hamid-Reza Asefi on Friday met Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis in Athens.
"They discussed bilateral ties, regional and international issues particularly Iraq and Palestine," the Iranian embassy in Athens said in a statement.
Asefi elaborated on Iran's peaceful nuclear program and maintained that negotiation and referral of Iran's file back to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was the only political solution to the issue, reports Trend.
Stressing that Tehran's atomic activities have been transparent and without any deviation, he made it clear that threats and pressures will not succeed.
The Greek official also said that her country and other European Union member states support a diplomatic solution to the Iran nuclear issue.
"The EU members by no means plan to deprive Iran of nuclear technology and respect its rights in this regard," Bakoyannis said as quoted in the statement.
She said that Greece will remain a friend of Iran and will do its best to keep the channel of negotiation open.
The Iranian diplomat left Athens to Tehran after meeting Greek Foreign Ministry officials on expansion of economic, political and parliamentary relations.
