(IRNA) - Austria's new Ambassador to Tehran here on Wednesday evening conferred with Head of Iran-Austria Parliamentary Friendship Group.

According to the Majlis Media Department, during the meeting the Iranian head of the two countries' friendship groups MP Mohammad-Baqer Bahrami expressed the current level of bilateral ties as "good", adding, "Iran and Austria enjoy a long record of good political, economic, and cultural ties."

Referring to the vast potentials for making fruitful investments in Iran, Bahrami asked for the expansion of commercial and economic ties to an extent to match the good level of Tehran-Vienna political relations, reports Trend.

He added, "Keeping in mind Austria's important role in the EU and our country's geo-political status as the joining point between the East and the West of Europe, Vienna can play an excellent mediating role between Tehran and EU."

Head of the Parliament's Social Affairs Commission elsewhere in his talks stressed that despite all hardships, taking advantage of nuclear energy for our country is an absolute right.

Bahrami added, "The international organizations, the EU, and the so-called 5+1 group must recognize our country's technical and legal right, regardless of biased political tendencies, since that way achieving tangible results would be much easier."

The Iranian head of the two countries' parliamentary friendship group during the meeting also referred to the plight with which the Palestinians are entangled, arguing, "The Islamic Republic of Iran has on many times emphasized the need for organizing a free and fair election in Palestine, based on its results a popular Palestinian government would take shape in entire Palestine, composed of Muslims, Christians and Jews."

The new Austrian Ambassador to Tehran, Michael Postl, too, during the meeting expressed hope that he would during his mission in Iran succeed in improving comprehensive ties, particularly in economic and business fields.

Touching on Iran's peaceful nuclear program, he said, "I sincerely hope this problem would be solved through diplomatic channels, as soon as possible."
