( IRNA ) - Direct talks between the United States and Iran on Iraq held Monday in Baghdad have a "positive impact" on the Islamic Republic's ties with the international community, it was announced here on Thursday.

The remark was made by Cristina Gallach , spokesperson for Javier Solana, EU high representative for the common foreign and security policy in an interview with IRNA.

She, however, clarified that the US-Iran talks will have no direct impact on the meeting between Solana and Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council in Madrid on Thursday.

The EU foreign policy chief has been appointed by the nternational community to lead the talks with Iran on the nuclear issue.

Thursday's meeting between the two officials will be the second in just over a month.

They last met in Turkey's capital Ankara on April 25 to find a solution to the nuclear standoff between Iran and the West.
