Baku, Azerbaijan, May 20
By Fatih Karimov - Trend: The Iranian government has approved offering a 33 percent discount on fuel and a 50 percent discount on transit services to increase trade via its southeastern port of Chabahar with Afghanistan.
The decision is aimed to encourage international transport and trade companies to boost commercial transactions to Afghanistan via Iran 's Chabahar port, Fars news agency reported May 20.
All the consignments that are transited to Afghanistan via Chabahar will be offered a 50 percent discount on loading and unloading fees, as well as customs duties.
Moreover, Afghan trucks can enter the port without restriction.
Trade Attaché at the Afghan Embassy in Tehran Abdolhadi Farhang told Trend on April 25 that Afghan President Ashraf Ghani's trip to Iran in April came with many good outcomes, especially in economy, transit, border affairs, customs, and transit.
He pointed out that the two countries' trade turnover has boomed from $100 million to $2.5 billion.
" Iran 's export to Afghanistan stands at about $2.5 billion and its import from Afghanistan at about $50 billion," he stated.
