By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iran's South Pars gas field produced 45.823 billion cubic meters of natural gas in the first half of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 21-Sept. 22).
Massoud Hasani, managing director of South Pars Gas Complex Company, said the output hit 38.663 billion cubic meters in the same period last year, Shana news agency reported Oct. 21.
The company met 54 percent of the country's need to gas, he added.
Products of South Pars Gas Complex Company bring some $56 billion added value for the country annually, he said, adding that the added value rose by $3 billion compared to the last year.
Ina addition to gas, the complex produces 400,000 barrels of condensate, 8,000 tons of liquefied gas, 1,000 tons of sulfur, and 5,200 tons of ethane per day, he said.
Iran is currently producing 300 million cubic meters (mcm) per day of gas from South Pars.
The country, which sits on the world's second largest natural gas reserves after Russia , has been trying to enhance its gas production by increasing foreign and domestic investments, especially in South Pars gas field.
The South Pars gas field, divided into 28 phases, is located in the Persian Gulf on the common border between Iran and Qatar. It is estimated that the field contains 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of condensate.
