Baku, Azerbaijan, June 12
By Fatih Karimov - Trend:
Iran's gas transmission capacity increased by 90 million cubic meters (mcm) per day as a new compressor station came into force, Planning Director of the National Iranian Gas Company Hassan Montazer Torbati said.
The new station which lies along the Iran Gas Trunkline-8 (IGAT-8) route is constructed in Safashahr city, southern Iran, Montazer Torbati said, the oil ministry's SHANA news agency reported June 12.
The station is capable to increase the gas pressure in the pipeline from 950 pound per square inch (PSI) to 1,280 PSI, he added.
Some 307 billion rials (each USD makes 30,500 rials), as well as 860,000 euros were invested for the construction of the new compressor station, Montazer Torbati said, adding the station enjoys three 25 watts turbo compressors.
Pointing to the construction of four other compressor stations on IGAT 8, the official added that the projects will go on stream by March 2017.
The 56-inch-diameter IGAT 8 gas pipeline, with a length of over 1,000 km, will supply gas from South Pars gas field to the central parts of the country.
In line with the South Pars development projects, a plan has also been made to start the construction of the ninth branch of Iran Gas Trunkline (IGAT 9) in the current Iranian year fiscal year (started on March 20), which will transfer 35 billion cubic meters per year to Europe via Turkey.
IGAT 9, with a length of 1,863 kilometers, was taken into consideration during the tenure of former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, but it was put on hold at the expense of IGAT 6, which provides an alternative route to transport Iran's gas to the Turkish border in northwest.
