Weekly report on Iran's power sector

Iran's power plants generated over 212.23 TWh (terawatt-hours) of electricity since the beginning of the current Iranian fiscal year ‎‎(March 21) till Nov. 3, according to the latest weekly statistics, published by Iran's Energy Ministry.

The figure indicates a rise by 7 percent compared to the same period of the preceding year.
Iran’s electricity export increased by 16 percent up to ‎5.569 TWh‎ from the beginning of the current fiscal year to Nov. 3, ‎ according to the report.

Meanwhile, Iran imported 2.695 TWh of electricity during the period, registering a 6-percent fall compared to the same period of the preceding year.

Iran’s thermal power plants and Bushehr nuclear power plant produced 200.138 terawatt hours of electricity in total during the reporting period, while 12.092 TWh ‎ of the country's total electricity production accounted for hydroelectric power plants.

The country increased gas and gas oil delivery to its power plants by 7.3 percent and 36.1 percent to 47.945 billion cubic meters and 1.48 billion liters, while fuel oil supply to this sector increased by 8.7 percent to 1.71 billion liters in the mentioned period.

The nominal electric generation capacity has increased by 1,018 megawatts (MW) to 77,446 MW in Iran since the beginning of the current Iranian fiscal year, according to the report.

Gas power plants (27,208 MW) share 35.13 percent of the generation capacity, meanwhile the share of combined cycle (19,790 MW) and steam power plants (15,829 MW) accounts for 25.55 and 20.44 percent, respectively.

Hydroelectric (11,811 MW) and Bushehr nuclear power plant’s (1020 MW) nominal electric generation capacity is equal to 15.25 and 1.32 percept of country’s electric generation capacity, meanwhile the share of renewables stands at only 0.42 percent or 322 MW.

Iran plans to increase its nominal electric generation capacity to 80,000 MW by summer 2018, and 100,000 by 2025, 1,000 of which should be produced from solar energy.‎
