Agricultural products rank 2nd among Iran’s imports

Agricultural products rank second among Iranian imports, after industry sector products.

A report by Iran’s ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade indicate that the Islamic Republic has imported $2.578 billion worth of agricultural products during the first half of the current fiscal year (started March 20, 2017), registering a 8.4 percent increase.

The country’s agricultural imports accounted to $462.4 million in the sixth Iranian calendar month (August 23-Sept. 22), 4.4 percent more compared to the preceding month.

Industrial products ranked first among the Iranian imports in terms of value ($20.374 billion), 15.8 percent more year on year.

Iran also imported $107.9 million worth of mineral products (62.3 percent more year on year) and $3.2 million worth of handicrafts and carpets (450 percent more) in the 6-month period.

Iran’s overall imports reached $23.599 billion in the first half of the current fiscal year, 15.4 percent more compared to the same period of the preceding year.

In terms of volume, Iran’s agricultural imports stood at 6.348 million tons in the 6-month period. The country’s overall imports reached 17.201 million tons.

In the meantime, the Islamic Republic exported 1.75 million tons of agricultural products worth $996.6 million in the first five months of current fiscal year.

The Iranian agricultural exports registered decline by 14.7 percent and 23.9 percent in terms of volume and value, respectively.
