Iranian and Turkish experts have sat down to exchange experience and create an integrated agricultural information system for Iran, a report said.

A symposium on ways to create an integrated agricultural information system for Iran’s Agriculture Ministry is underway in the Iranian capital of Tehran with Iranian and Turkish experts in attendance, IRIB news agency reported on July 18.

During the three-day event, Iran will use the experience Turkey to establish integrated system and avoid statistical inaccuracies and errors, Karim Ahmadi, an official with the ministry, said.

He added that accurate statistics could help the government predict what to produce and when to produce, take key decisions, improve the country’s import and export of agricultural products, streamline data management and balance demand and supply in the agricultural sector.

“Turkey has an integrated information system and is monitoring all its agricultural activities”, Ahmadi said.

Officials and farmers are continually at odds about determining what, how much and when to produce. Balancing the agricultural market is a constant struggle, as it requires accurate and comprehensive data on farms, crops and weather conditions among others.
