Iran airports witness fall in passenger, cargo traffic

Over 115,647 domestic and international flights were carried out via Iranian airports in the first quarter of the current fiscal year (March 20-June 21), Iran Airports Company (IAC) said in a statement.

The figure which covers flights of 55 airports, including 50 airports under the supervision of the IAC, indicates a fall by 5 percent compared to the same period of the preceding year.

More than 13.831 million passengers were transferred via Iranian airports in the 3-month period, 7 percent less year on year.

Mehrabad Airport in Tehran topped the Iranian airports in terms of flights with over 33,561 flights (3.9 million passengers), followed by Mashhad airport (16,099 flights and over 2.3 million passengers), ‎Imam Khomeini (13,852 flights and 2.07 million passengers), Shiraz (8,807 flights, 888,000 passengers), Kish (6,312 flights and 771,700 passengers) and Isfahan (5,748 flights and 617,000 flights) international airports.

Also 137.6 million kilograms of cargo was transported via Iranian airports‎ in the period, 5 percent less year-on-year.

Imam Khomeini airport stood at the first place among Iranian airports in terms of cargo transportation volume. Over 38.7 million kilograms of cargo was transferred via the Imam Khomeini Airport in the 3-month period.

Mehrabad (27.8 million kilograms), Mashhad (21 million kilograms), Shiraz (8.8 million), Kish (8.6 million kilograms) and Isfahan (5.8 million kilograms) airports stood next.

Over 455,613 domestic and international flights were carried out via Iranian airports in the last Iranian fiscal year, ended March 20, 8 percent more year-on-year.

More than 57 million passengers were transferred via Iranian airports in the 12-month period, registering a 7 percent increase compared to the preceding year.

Also 552.3 million kilograms of cargo was transported via Iranian airports‎ in the period, which is 9 percent more compared to the 12-month period of the previous year.
