Iran has 85 desalination facilities, either commissioned or under construction

Currently, 85 facilities that have the capacity to desalinate 175 million cubic meters of water annually (470,000 cubic meters daily) are either already commissioned or being constructed in Iran, Deputy Director of Iran's Water and Wastewater Company Shahin Pakrouh said, Trend reports via ISNA.

According to relevant contracts signed earlier, the private sector will invest 17 trillion rials (roughly $404 million) in these projects, Pakrouh said.

According to Pakrouh, 25 desalination facilities with the total daily capacity of 220,000 cubic meters are currently being constructed.

Moreover, 60 desalination plants with the total daily capacity of 250,000 cubic meters have already been put into operation in Iran, Pakrouh said.

According to the deputy director, these desalination projects cover 11 Iranian provinces, namely, Khuzestan, Hormozgan, Bushehr, Sistan and Baluchestan, Mazandaran, Semnan, Alborz, Golestan, Isfahan, Kerman, Ilam.

However, 90 percent of the plants account for the provinces on the coast of the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
