Three water desalinations treatment plants with 80,000 cubic meters capacity are being constructed with a $238 million investment in Bushehr Province that is partly expected to be operated by the end of the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2021), said the CEO of Bushehr Water & Waste Water Company.

The current water desalinations plants are sweetening 10 percent of province water, the construction of three new plants in Siraf-Jam and Bushehr had 70 percent progress, said Aboldhamid Hamzepour, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"It is necessary to install water desalinations treatment despite the heavy costs for the government since Bushehr Province has problem in regards to local water resources. The drinking water would be supplied from desalinations of seawater and people in this province would not be affected by the drought," CEO said.

Bushehr Water & Waste Water Company has paid $714 million to 200 farmers that avoided cultivation by using water from the Shahpour river in Kazeroun County and assigned their water quota to people in the Fars Province in the last Iranian year (started March 20, 2020).

Fars Province currently supplies 30 percent of consumption water for Bushehr Province while Kowsar dam in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province provide 50 percent of water to the province and 10 percent is provided from local wells.

About 35 to 40 percent of the water transmission network in Bushehr Province is old , the annual renovation of water transmission network is 250 kilometers. It is expected that $71 million credit would be assigned to renovation. Additionally the water treatment plants in the province have been renovated by $7 billion credit.
