BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 16. The exploration operations at the Sangan iron ore complex in Razavi-Khorasan Province, located in northeastern Iran, in the first 11 months of the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through February 19, 2024), increased by 11 percent compared to the same period last year, Trend reports, referring to the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO).
Exploration operations at the Sangan mining complex covered an area of 13,666 square meters during the 11 months. Meanwhile, the figure was 12,300 square meters in the same period last year.
About 20.8 million (20,780,766) tons of iron ore were extracted from the Sangan mining complex in the first 11 months. This is 90 percent more than the same period last year.
The objective was to extract 23 million tons of iron ore from the Sangan mining complex over the course of 11 months.
To note, Iran's Sangan mining complex is considered one of the 10 largest iron ore mines in the world. The reserves of this mining complex amount to 1 billion tons. The Sangan mining complex is operated by IMIDRO.
