Iran signed a contract with Atomstroyexport on installation of the second and third units in Bushehr Nuclear Plant in 2014. The contract included works on the design and installation of two nuclear units with 1,057 megawatt power production capacity, Trend reports from the ceremony.

The construction of the second unit started in December 2016.

Implementation of the project at the Bushehr Nuclear Plant is a key process to implement national strategy on development of the country's nuclear plants.

The long-term plans are to operate three reactor units in Bushehr Nuclear Plant. Currently, the first unit is operating and has 1,000 megawatt power production. It is expected that the launch of the second and third units will increase nuclear power production to 3,114 megawatt.
