The Speaker of Iran's Parliament (Majlis) Ali Larijani said that the presence of Americans in the region is like playing with gunpowder.

Referring to the United States' plan for fighting ISIL in Iraq and Syria, Larijani said that, "The US is pursuing its own interests in the region, but the country should know that the nations of the region are awake and Washington's game may result in a huge fire."

"Washington's move is hasty and opportunistic," the official said, Iran's Fars News Agency reported on September 13.

He further blamed the US for the growing trend of extremism in the region.

"Forming a coalition for fighting ISIL, when the coalition is not working under the supervision of the United Nation's Security Council, is meaningless," Larijani noted, adding that this shows that the Americans are not capable of governing the world.

The US president Barack Obama earlier this week announced his new strategy for fighting ISIL millitants in Syria and Iraq.

The new strategy includes arming anti-Damascus group who also fight with the ISIL, as well as carrying out airstrikes in Syria and Iraq.
