Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham in a statement released on Tuesday called for immediate action to protect Kobani civilians against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) attacks, IRNA reported.

She warned of the catastrophic situation in Kobani region of Syria.

Afkham called for dispatch of relief aids for the war-torn region and declared Iran's support for the Syrian nation and government against terrorists.

The international community should not be silent on the crimes committed by ISIL, the spokeswoman underlined.

She added that Iran will dispatch its humanitarian aids for the Kobani civilians in the near future.

The warning came as ISIL militants on Tuesday opened new fronts in their battle against Kurdish defenders in the southern and western parts of the city.

Kobani and its surroundings have been under attack since mid-September, with ISIL militants capturing dozens of nearby Kurdish villages. The intense fighting for the strategic town has forced nearly 200,000 people to take refuge in Turkey.
