A number of local fishermen are reportedly killed and injured as a result of a fire accident in Khour Mousa waterway close to Iran's south western Port of Mahshahr, an informed source said, Iran's official IRNA news agency reported March 7.
Certain media outlets related the incident to recent Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps drills in the Strait of Hormuz which were immediately denied by the IRGC.
But an official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told IRNA on Friday night that IRGC did not have a military exercise in this region last week.
According to the source, number of casualties may increase.
An IRGC helicopter was dispatched to the area to rescue the fishermen but could not help them, the official added.
Khour Mousa is located in the Northwest of the Gulf and is connected to it from the South.
