The results of the latest census in Iran have been announced, showing that the family size in Iran is shrinking.

The family size has become smaller by 0.2 percent compared to the preceding census which was conducted five years ago, Iran Statistics Center’s Director Omid Ali Parsa said, Mehr news agency reported March 13.

Also, Parsa said, the rural population of Iran has become smaller by 772,383 in the course of five years.

Iran’s population in the meantime grew by 4,776,601 to reach 79,926,270. The number of families also increased by 3,010,388 to stand at 24,196,035, he said.

The number of urban families rose by 2,798,649 to hit 18,125,000 in the five-year period, Parsa mentioned.
