TEHRAN, Iran, Aug. 2

Trend:

As part of the National Housing Action Plan, Iran plans to build 1.7 million houses, Deputy Minister of Road and Urban Development Mahmoud Mahmoudzadeh said, Trend reports citing ISNA.

According to Mahmoudzadeh, currently the excavation stage for construction of some 534,000 housing units has finished.

"Some problems in this project included delay in issuing construction permits in some regions and in some cities we are waiting for permit from municipalities," he said.

Mahmoudzadeh pointed out that the price for construction materials in Iran may decrease soon, which would be beneficial for the above mentioned project.

"We have an agreement with the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade that assigns construction materials for the projects, so this could help reduce price of finished housing units," he said.

"The decline of cement and steel supply would definitely affect the speed of works in the National Housing Action Plan, but these problems would not last that long," he said.
