Azerbaijani customs officials revealed 33 incidents of drug trafficking in the first quarter of this year, State Customs Committee Chairman Aydin Aliyev said at a Cabinet of Ministers meeting.

Azerbaijani customs officials revealed 33 incidents of drug trafficking in the first quarter of this year, State Customs Committee Chairman Aydin Aliyev said at a Cabinet of Ministers meeting.
Some 40.7 kilograms of drugs, including 5.6 kilograms of heroin, 1.2 kg of opium, and 29.3 kg of hashish and other drugs were seized, he said.

As a result of the fight against smuggling and other customs offenses, the customs authorities uncovered 4,665 offenses. Sixty percent were of a criminal nature.
Within three months, 118 legal and 4,487 physical individuals were brought to administrative responsibility for violating customs regulations. These individuals were fined 254,000 manat, Aliyev said.

Many important activities have been carried out to ensure transparency, prevent smuggling and tax evasion, and strengthen the fight against offenses in the State Customs Committee.
A gang of 11 persons, four of whom are customs employees, was arrested for fraud, corruption and other illegal activities and sentenced in court.
