Azerbaijani IT sector (January-April 2016)

The Azerbaijani information and communication technology sector (ICT) is one of the most dynamically developing sectors of the national economy due its profitability and total profitability of this business.

Information and communication services worth 514.9 million manat were rendered for Azerbaijan's population and organizations in January-April 2016 or 11 percent more than in January-April 2015.

Some 81.1 percent of income received through the sector accounted for the non-state enterprises during this period.

Around 71.8 percent of the total volume of information and communication services accounted for the services rendered to the population.

Some 49.7 percent of a total volume of obtained income accounted for mobile services.

Mobile communication

A volume of revenues obtained from mobile services in Azerbaijan hit 255.9 million manat in January-April 2016. The income in the mobile communication sector declined by 8.4 percent compared to January-April 2015.

The revenues received through mobile communication services in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic exceeded 13.1 million manat in January-April 2016 or by 1.4 percent more than in the same period of 2015.

The revenues received as a result of rendering the information and communication services in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic exceeded 16.3 million manat in January-April 2016 or by 2.8 percent more than in the same period of 2015.

Some 79.4 percent of the total volume of the rendered services accounted for mobile services, the report said.

Some 80.5 percent of the total volume of the rendered services accounted for the mobile communication.

Internet resources

The volume of incoming Internet traffic used through Azerbaijani primary provider - Delta Telecom's network decreased by 16 percent and amounted to 160 gigabits in April compared to March.

The dynamics of the network load varies depending on the time and the maximum load is observed in the evening (20:00 - 23:00) - 160 gigabits. In the morning this figure reduced to 15 gigabits.

According to Delta Telecom, the volume of outgoing traffic depending on the time ranges from one to 25 gigabits.

Delta Telecom's traffic is divided among 25 telecommunication operators (public and private Internet providers, mobile operators, and others).

As of May 2, the largest volume of Internet traffic delivered to an end user accounted for Aztelekom state Internet provider (26.5 percent), BakinterNet ranked second with a 21 percent share, AG Telecom - ranked third with a 9.1 percent share.

The remaining 43.4 percent are distributed among such companies as AZUninet, Azintex, BakinterNet, QlobalNet, Ultel, AlfaNet, AzNet, Caspel, MegaTelecom, Avirtel, Castel, Nakhchivan, Azercell, AzStarNet, Connect, Information and Computing Center (ICC), the Azerbaijani Ministry of Communications and High Technologies, Azerin, DATAPlus, Smart Systems, Azeronline, Bakcell, Eurocel and TransEuroCom.
