Armenia wishes to change its time zone

With its geographical position, Armenia corresponds to GMT+3, but it is currently at GMT+4. According to Economy Minister Tigran Davtyan, this discrepancy had come about in the 1930s, when the clocks were switched one hour forward in the ex-USSR, News.am reported.

Also, Armenia is at GMT+5 in April-October, and therefore it diverges from its "normal" time zone by two hours.

These changes in time are usually carried out to save electricity, but spring and fall are the most stressful periods for the human organism, hence the time changes cause additional problems.

Armenia's Economy Minister announced that this year the country will not switch its time. Prior to that, however, the Law "On the Procedure of Calculation of Time in Armenia" needs to be changed. The Government is in favor of removing the Law's provision on switching the clocks, and thus Armenia will remain at GMT+4. But Tigran Davtyan did not rule out the possibility that in several years Armenian could finally switch to GMT+3, which corresponds to its geographical position.
