The Georgian Parliament has adopted an addition to the Constitution at the third reading tonight. It deals with holding special local elections before June 1, 2010 and the election of the Tbilisi Mayor through direct elections.
According to the ruling party, the decision was followed by the changes to the Electoral Code. According to them, local elections are scheduled for May 30.
The administration of Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili confirmed that elections will be scheduled for May 30. This president must announce this date not later than 60 days before the elections in accordance with new amendments to the Constitution.
