Establishing a visa-free regime with EU countries is of vital importance to Georgia, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said at a joint press conference with EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Cecilia Malmström today.

Saakashvili said that no matter how strained the relations between the parties in Georgia may have been, the country will continue moving to Europe. Georgia has done much to establish visa-free regime with the European Union and the students had the opportunity to study in Europe. The biometric passports were introduced. Europe has no complaints towards Georgia concerning crime.

However, Saakashvili stressed that there is still much to do. He added that the first results of this work will appear in 2014.

Malmström said that the Georgian citizens will have a big effect after a visa-free regime is introduced.

"Georgia achieved great success, including the improvement of the legislative base in 2012," she said. "It is important to continue the reforms. We must fight against organized crime and corruption. The president and prime minister must contribute to the adoption of pragmatic decisions. This is very important for Georgia's international reputation."
