Georgia will join the European Energy Association in six to eight months, European Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger said at a joint press conference with Georgian Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze on Feb. 20.

Joining the association envisages certain obligations. The benefit to be obtained from this is also well described.

"Last week we discussed our expectations on how to reach a common goal," Oettinger said. "I am optimistic. I believe that ultimately we will achieve results in six to eight months. There is no exact date but this will happen by October."

Oettinger will also meet with the Prime Minister, Minister of Energy and Economy and State Minister for European integration of the country during his visit to Georgia.

The visit will end on February 21.
