Georgia launches new projects to assist rural sector entrepreneurs

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 23. Georgia is launching a new program to support farmers' cooperatives for the creation of vegetable storehouses with 80 percent co-financing from the government, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Otar Shamugia said, Trend reports via the press service of the Ministry.

In order to increase the production in agriculture sector, the government decided to make changes in the “Preferential agrocredit” program with subsidies of up to 9 percent, and create a new program, the minister said.

According to Shamugia, the program is aimed at ensuring that Georgian farmers have the opportunity to store their products in accordance with modern, generally accepted standards and supply them to the market on more favorable terms for them and preserve the quality of products, Shamugia said.

A total of 4.5 billion Georgian lari ($1.4 billion) has been invested in implementation of agriculture programs over the recent years, the financing of most of which accounts for private investments.
