Two Syrians kidnapped last week were freed by the Lebanese authorities and deported to their home country Thursday morning, a security source told Xinhua.

The source said Lebanon's Department of General Security has returned to Syria Mohammad Ayman Ammar and Nour Jamil Qadoura, kidnapped in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley on Aug. 26.

The Lebanese police freed Ammar and Qadoura late Wednesday night, added the source.

A statement by Lebanon's Internal Security Forces (ISF) said the two Syrian nationals were freed after the whereabouts of one of their kidnappers was traced.

The two men, who are believed to support the protest against the Syrian government, were kidnapped by gunmen after they crossed the Syrian border into eastern Lebanon.

According to the ISF statement, a search for the kidnappers has been ongoing.
