The number of the defected soldiers and officers from the Syrian army is about 10,000 people, one of the founders of the Free Syrian Army Ibrahim Majbour said.

Majbour noted that Free Syrian Army has no political goal and fights against the Syrian regime, Al Arabiya reported.

"Defected soldiers carry out effective operations against the Syrian security forces and the Army in several cities of the country," he added.

Free Syrian Army was declared on 29 July 2011 in a web video released by a group of uniformed men claiming to be defectors from the Syrian military, who called upon members of the army to defect and join them.

The leader of the Free Syrian Army, Colonel Riyad al-Asad announced that the FSA would work with demonstrators to bring down the system and declared that all security forces attacking civilians are justified targets.
