US teacher gunned down in Yemen
An American teacher was gunned down by two assailants in southern Yemen on Sunday, broadcaster Al Arabiya reported.
The gunmen travelling on a motorbike opened fire on the teacher as he drove to the language institute in the city of Taiz where he worked, dpa quoted the report as saying.
The victim was also the deputy manager of the institute, said the broadcaster.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Militant groups, with suspected links to al-Qaeda, are believed to have strengthened their foothold in southern Yemen, taking advantage of a year of protests against Ali Abdullah Saleh, who agreed to step down as president last November after 33 years in power.
His predecessor Abd Rabu Mansour Hadi, who took office last month, has vowed to fight al-Qaeda, calling it a "religious and national duty."
