The Daesh jihadist group, banned in a range of states including Russia, has lost control of over 30 percent of territory in Iraq, Iraqi Defense Minister Khalid al-Obeidi said.
Daesh, a radical Sunni group, has captured vast areas in Iraq and Syria forcing hundreds of people to flee their homes. The group, notorious for its human rights abuses, has also claimed responsibility for a number of major terrorist attacks staged in different parts of the world.
He also thanked the international anti-Daesh coalition for financial and military support in the fight against terrorists.
An international US-led coalition of more than 60 nations has been conducting airstrikes against the Daesh in Iraq and Syria since 2014.
