The Cairo-based Arab League (AL) Thursday called on the General Assembly of the United Nations to convene urgently to discuss situation in East Jerusalem, a statement said, Xinhua reported.
The statement urged a UN urgent session to discuss what it described as the "Israeli crimes and state terrorism."
"We have discussed the dangerous situation in East Jerusalem and found that it requires an urgent move by regional and international organizations," said the league's Deputy Chief Ahmed Ben Heli following an emergency meeting of permanent delegates at AL headquarters,
Last week, confrontations broke out between Palestinians and the Israeli police as a group of Jewish radicals broke into the Al Aqsa Mosque area, a flashpoint site in Jerusalem sacred to both Muslims and Jews. Some Palestinians and several Israeli police were injured during the clashes.
