( dpa ) - A British man who became known as the bus stop killer was Monday found guilty of the murder of two young women - a language student from France and the student daughter of a British-German couple.
Levi Bellfield, 39, a former nightclub bouncer who stalked women at bus stops in south-west London, was convicted of the murder of 19-year-old Marsha McDonnell in February, 2003, and Amelie Delagrange, a 22-year-old French student, in August, 2004.
At the end of his jury trial at the Old Bailey Criminal Court in London, Bellfield, whom police suspect of having committed 20 other attacks on women, was also convicted of the attempted murder of British girl Kate Sheedy, in May 2004.
He is expected to be given a life sentence Tuesday.
The court heard that Bellfield trawled buses and bus stops for women and attacked them when they rejected him.
McDonnell, then 19, was "bludgeoned to death" just yards from her home after she got off a bus in February, 2003.
Her mother Ute, who is German, said after the verdict Monday that she believed justice had been done.
But, she added, the trauma of losing a daughter in this way had been made worse "by not being in your own country."
In August, 2004, French girl Amelie Delagrange died from severe head injuries following an attack on Twickenham Green in south-west London when she was walking home after missing her bus.
Her parents, who attended each session of the five-month trial, also expressed relief Monday that justice had been done.
British girl Katie Sheedy suffered severe injuries when she got off a bus and was hit by a car, which reversed back over her before driving off, in May 2004, when she was 18.
"I have waited for nearly four years for this day and it hard to express how much it means to me," the former convent school pupil said.
"The road to recovery has been emotionally and physically hard. There were times when I thought I would never get better," she said.
