Azerbaijan, Baku, 8 May /corr. Trend A.Gasimova / Vladimir Putin was elected Prime Minister of Russia at today's extraordinary meeting of the State Duma (Parliament).
Some 392 (87%) MPs voted for and 12.4% against Vladimir Putin.
In his speech before the voting, Putin gave an account of future works of the Government. Putin said that the main fact is unification of common goals. " Russia has not only changed, but has become a different country. Currently the country needs solidarity of the society, and co-ordinated work from all branches of the Government is in demand. It is clear for me that the Government may be strong and effective if it leans totally on legislative power," new Head of the Government said.
On 11 December 2007, at the time when four parties had suggested Medvedev's candidature for the presidency, he asked Putin to become Prime Minister should he win the elections. After the inauguration, Medvedev put forward Vladimir Putin for the Prime Minister position in Parliament.
