A gang of 20 armed gangsters killed seven Mexican police officers in the state of Michoacan over the weekend, Mexican media reported Sunday.

The attack occurred in Tancitero in central Mexico.

The gangsters first attacked a police car with four police officers, killing three of them. As four colleagues raced to their aid in a second car, they were also killed.

The killings were the latest of thousands of murders of civilians and police officers in Mexico's ongoing wars among the country's drug cartels who are fighting over the billion-dollar illicit business, dpa reported.
