The death toll from floods across much of Thailand the past two-and-a-half weeks has risen to 18 people and nearly 190,000 sick from disease borne water have been treated, a department of public health official said Sunday.

Public Health Ministry spokesman Dr Suphan Srthamma said most of the deaths were in the central, north and northeastern provinces, reported dpa.

Health Ministry mobile units sent to the flood areas have treated nearly 190,000 people, he said, adding most of the sick suffered from colds, diarrhea and itching.

The government-run Thai News Agency reported the floods have also destroyed crops and food shortages were expected due to the losses.
