A Czech tourist, who had been reported missing in the Low Tatra mountains in Slovakia since last Friday, was found dead on Monday, according to Milan Tatarka, from the local Mountain Rescue Service centre.

Mountain rescuers found the dead man in snow some 50 meters from the peak of Durkova mountain, about one kilometer from a mountain lodge, the Czech news agency CTK quoted Tatarka as saying.

The man got lost last Friday when descending the Low Tatra mountain range to the Magurka chalet, Xinhua reported. The mountain rescue service started to search for him after only one of the couple of tourists returned from the hike and reported his friend missing, CTK said.

The rescuers had to interrupt the search for the man several times at the weekend due to bad weather, and their work was complicated by deep snow and the risk of avalanches, the report said.

A total of 14 rescuers were searching for him this morning, Tatarka said.
The rescuers will carry the dead body down to the valley by the evening, he added.
