Former Chief of the General Staff of Turkish Army, General Yashar Beyukanut Beykent said to press conference at the University of Strategic Studies (BUSAM) that the Turkish Army is not against religion, but against those who use religious policies for their own purposes, Turkish Hürriyət newspaper reported.

"It is impossible to describe the Turkish Army as non-religious. Turkish Army does not act against religion, but against those who use religious policies for their own purposes," said Beykent.

Beykent said that no army should interfere in politics. "If an army intervenes in politics, it will not be helpful."

"If in any country the Ministry of Justice, Interior Ministry, National Security Committee do not enjoy their authorities, this country has no future,"said Beykent.

He also stressed that if the above-mentioned structures are not acting together, this is the problem of Head of State, not the Constitution.
