The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and Afghan National Security Force (ANSF) troops confiscated and destroyed a cache of narcotics and ammonium chloride in operations in southern Afghan province of Helmand Friday, said a statement of the alliance issued here on Saturday, Xinhua reported.
In Sangin district the joint forces discovered the cache containing 1.5 tonnes of opium, 2 kg of morphine, and several bags of ammonium chloride, which is used to refine narcotics, the statement said.
It added that opium, which was destroyed by the ISAF along with other narcotics on the spot, cost some 84,000 U.S. dollars in market.
"This latest success in the fight against the illegal narcotics industry and the insurgency follows ANSF, ISAF, and coalition forces recent seizing of significant quantities of drugs during operations in eastern Afghanistan, and in the Marjah area of Helmand province," it noted.
