34 militants killed in NW Pakistan operation

As many as 34 militants were killed and seven others were arrested in the military operation in northwestern Pakistan during last 24 hours, the army said in a statement on Thursday, Xinhua reported.
  
Five soldiers were also injured in the operation in Malakand Division of North West Frontier Province (NWFP), said the statement.
  
The military operation is still advancing in Swat and Dir districts of NWFP, according to the statement.
  
It also pointed out that the army had distributed 4,517 tons rations including relief items collected from all Corps Headquarters, civilians and non-governmental organizations amongst the Internally Displaced Persons of Malakand Division.
  
At least 1,500 militants have been killed since security forces launched the military operation against Taliban militants late April after militants in early April entered the Buner district from the neighboring Swat district and refused to vacate the area despite their pledge to do so.
