Five soldiers with the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) were killed Sunday in two separate incidents in Afghanistan's restive south and northern region, the military alliance said Monday.

"Four ISAF service members died following an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in northern Afghanistan yesterday," said a press release issued by ISAF, Xinhua reported.

However, it did not disclose the nationalities of the victims by saying"it is ISAF policy to defer casualty identification procedures to the relevant national authorities."

Meantime, according to media reports, the ill-fated soldiers were Norwegian troopers serving within the ISAF framework in country's northern Faryab province.

Over 500 Norwegian soldiers have been stationed in northern Afghanistan to help stabilize that part of the militancy-hit Afghanistan.

Earlier ISAF in another press release confirmed that a service member of NATO was killed on the same day Sunday in Afghanistan's southern region the stronghold of Taliban militants.

"An ISAF service member died following an insurgents attack in southern Afghanistan Sunday,"said the press release.

The month of June has been proved the deadliest month for the NATO and U.S. forces stationed in Afghanistan as 95 troopers out of 315 soldiers who lost their lives since beginning of the year have been killed alone in June, according to Website iCasualties. com tracking the casualties of foreign troops in Afghanistan.
