Chechen president comes to Saudi Arabia for religious pilgrimage

The Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov came to Saudi Arabia and carried out minor pilgrimage - Umrah, his press secretary Alvi Karimov said on Sunday, RIA Novosti reported.

Umrah is a religious pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia's city of Mecca, which can be conducted by Muslims at any time of the year.

Kadyrov was met by Governor of Jeddah Province Prince Misha'al Bin Majed Bin Abdul Aziz, and other senior persons, Karimov said.

"Saudi Arabia always welcomes you; consider yourself at home... The doors of the kingdom are always open for you," Bin Abdul Aziz said.

Kadyrov thanked for the hearty welcome and emphasized that the friendly relations between Russia and Saudi Arabia mean much for the Chechen Republic which is a part of Russia. The central religion of the Chechen Republic is Sunni Islam.

Kadyrov also expressed appreciation to Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz for preservation of the Muslim Holy Sites.
