Seven bodies were found in a clandestine grave in Mazatlan, in the north-western Mexican state of Sinaloa, state authorities said Wednesday, dpa reported.

The site in the outskirts of the port city of Mazatlan, which is also a tourist attraction along the Pacific coast, was found thanks to an anonymous message. The bodies were largely decomposed and showed signs of having been tortured prior to their death. They had been wrapped in blankets.

More than 28,000 people have died in Mexico in incidents linked to organized crime since the inauguration of Mexican President Felipe Calderon in December 2006.
